# PastePort — Formatting converter > Move bold, italic, links and code between Markdown, Slack, WhatsApp and plain text. Convert a bounded set of nested text formatting, fenced code and links with a visual preview and explicit reports of unsupported formatting. Part of usefulweb.app (https://usefulweb.app/). Part of [Paperwell](https://paperwell.usefulweb.app/) (ownerApp: paperwell). Results are deterministic calculations from the inputs and the listed assumptions; the API returns exactly what the web page shows. ## Use it - Human interface: https://paperwellpasteport.usefulweb.app/ (interactive tool at https://paperwellpasteport.usefulweb.app/tool) - JSON API: POST https://paperwellpasteport.usefulweb.app/api/v1/calculate with a JSON object of inputs (schema: https://paperwellpasteport.usefulweb.app/api/v1/tool) - OpenAPI: https://paperwellpasteport.usefulweb.app/openapi.json - MCP (Streamable HTTP): https://paperwellpasteport.usefulweb.app/mcp - tool `paperwell_pasteport` ## Inputs - text (textarea): Text - from (select): From - to (select): To ## Method - A bounded original parser handles paired bold/italic/strike markers, nested combinations, code spans, fenced code and HTTP(S) links. Generated HTML previews escape source text and use only constructed elements. - Markdown accepts variable backtick and tilde code fences and equal-length code-span delimiters. Literal markers are escaped when converting to Markdown. The preview parses the converted destination text; same-format output preserves the original bytes. Headings become bold or plain lines, images become alt text and tables remain text. This bounded dialect is not a complete platform rich-text implementation; review warnings and test important content in the destination.
